Large doll images developed

I developed the doll pieces I'd previously worked on further using collage, extra media such as chalk ink and emulsion as well as added more colour to the pieces overall. The bottom one turned out nicely but the above image was a bit to dark when I tried to add shading with the black.
So I decided to work back into it further to remove the black from it which worked nicely in the end. I really like how deranged the doll looks in this image I used a thick brush with ink to draw out the features of the doll and to encourage the drops adding to the creepy look.

Doll head ( my descent into creepiness)

After looking at a ceramicist/illustrator from the pick me up event I decided to try to make my own dolls. I'm starting by making dolls heads out of ceramic which is very interesting to work with as it can be milder to an extent but when it's fired it'll be really fragile.

The above site is the website for pick me up 2015, a graphic arts festival I went to on the 4th of May. It was a really interesting event to go to and I met some graphic artists and animators. The event hosted talks, a place to sell work and a gallery showcasing illustration and graphics work from several artists. I was also able to get my hands on some good illustration books to.

Zippos circus primary research May 3rd - Videos

On May 3rd i went to Zippos Circus in London in order to see what a modern circus is like. while i did observational drawings of the performances my dad took films of the shows. There are more films however i have yet to get them off of my dad because my memory stick has run out of space.
The Circus was amazing to go see i was very impressed by the contortionist and the clowns as well as an act called Galaxy Duo (which i will put a film up of in due time). I fail to understand why people find clowns creepy, i found them to be very funny, it might come down to the make up as well as the medias portrayal of them in thriller movies. I do think that wether something is seen as creepy depends on one of two aspects; the appearance and the situation. I want to try and create a situation that can be seen as fascinating or inviting like the circus performance was for me while the being performing could be seen as off putting creating that contradiction as well as disproving the misconception that beings such as clowns or contortionists are scary. I want other people to also enjoy the circus and see its not as scary as one might think so id also like to go to zippos circus again sometime in the future.

Doll drawings on stretched paper

Unfortunately the top one is on its side. These images are an extension of the ink and stick drawings done previously this time with the addition of colour the colour palette was taken from the hair and clothes of the dolls that I had drawn here and in my previous ink drawings. Most colour here is just in the back ground in collage. The top image is a pretty doll while the bottom is a creepy doll based on their appearance and how I used the ink. I avoided dripping on the top image because the drips cause the image to take a very sinister look so I really loaded the ink on the othe image to try and get as creepy an image as I could.

Behind again review

I've not been keeping up with the blog unfortunately but during the past few weeks I have made some interesting progress with my work. I have been working large scale on stretched paper using stick and ink as well as mixed media to create both creepy and in contrast appealing images. On May 3rd I went on a trip to the circus which I will go into detail in a later post, same for the pick me up event I went to on the 4th. I found a ceramicist / illustrator who has lead me into creating doll head basing the features off of what people like and dislike about dolls and I also plan on doing some 2d imagery with this information.
